O’Halloran was signed by Rangers boss Mark Warburton a year ago, but could be on his way out of Ibrox already.

English sides Barnsley and Oxford United have asked to be kept informed of Michael O’Halloran’s situation at Glasgow Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

The paper had previously reported that four Scottish Premiership sides – Hearts, St Johnstone, Ross County and Motherwell – were looking into signing the out of favour Ibrox man, although this was later denied by Rangers manager Mark Warburton.

Hearts are now said to have made known their interest in O’Halloran, with Barnsley and Oxford also entering the race for the winger’s signature.

O’Halloran only moved to Rangers from St Johnstone in last year’s winter window, however the 26-year-old has started only five league games this season.

His Ibrox future could hinge on that of fellow wide man Barrie McKay, who the report claims is a £6 million target for Bundesliga surprise package RB Leipzig.

McKay has 18 months to run on his Rangers contract and may find appealing the idea of playing alongside Scotland teammate Oliver Burke.

Barnsley are going strong in this season’s Championship, but look set to lose key men James Bree and Conor Hourihane to Aston Villa, a week after having top scorer Sam Winnall poached by Sheffield Wednesday.

Oxford, meanwhile, sit 13th in League One.
