According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have identified Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele as their top alternative to number one summer target Timo Werner.

The Reds are seemingly keen to bolster their attacking options this summer.

The German international is said to be a big fan of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Moreover, he has a release clause in his contract at around £50 million.

But a recent report from Bild claims the Reds aren’t willing to spend that much. The current Covid-19 suspension has put a strain on finances across the globe.

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said in response that Werner won’t leave for cheaper.

Now, the latest reports from Mundo Deportivo claim Dembele is Premier League leaders Liverpool’s top alternative.

The Spanish editorial explain how Klopp is a huge fan of the wide player, and how the Reds wanted to sign him before he joined Barcelona as Neymar’s replacement.

Dembele cost Barcelona £129 million in 2017. The former Borussia Dortmund player, however, is now available for just £37 million according to the Daily Mail.

At such a price, the France international is an absolute bargain.

Dembele has struggled with injuries during his time at the Nou Camp. He has made a total of just nine appearances this season.

But the 23-year-old boasts enormous ability and potential. He still has the best of his career to come, and his versatility makes him an ideal target.

Dembele isn’t a centre-forward like Roberto Firmino. However, he could compete with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane for both wide roles at Anfield.
