Arsenal are set to sign Joel Lopez from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported that the 16-year-old left-back has informed Barcelona that he will not sign a professional contract with the Spanish and European giants.

The report has also claimed that the teenager has opted to move to Arsenal in the Premier League, and that the Gunners will have to pay a compensation fee.

Promising talent

Given that Lopez is only 16 years of age, it is clear that he is not ready for the first team yet and will probably not be for a few more years.

However, the reportedly imminent signing of the youngster underlines just how big a pull Arsenal are to talent and promising young footballers.

Barcelona are Spanish and European giants and are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but Arsenal do have the ability to attract some of the best players, both established and youngsters.

Arsenal endured a disappointing Premier League campaign in 2017-18 and will be aiming to finishing in the top four next season.
