Spanish newspaper SPORT claim Arsenal defender Gabriel has emerged as an option for Barcelona. The Brazilian has struggled of late for the Gunners, and the report suggests that Arsenal might have to sell this summer.
Gabriel, 24, joined Arsenal from Lille in the summer of 2020 and has since emerged as a regular for the Gunners. With 62 games under his belt, he has formed a brilliant partnership with England international Ben White.
But in the last few games, his form has dipped at The Emirates. A couple of mistakes has coincided with a couple of poor results for Mikel Arteta’s side. Now, Barcelona want to lure him to La Liga ahead of the summer window.
The report claims that Barcelona have opened talks regarding a possible move for Gabriel – and that Arsenal might be open to a sale. Indeed, they need to bring in some players but might have to sell first in order to do so.
Barcelona eye Gabriel: Arsenal defender must be kept at Emirates
While his form of late has been questionable, Gabriel is fundamental to the way Arsenal play and he is a core part of the side. Also, the Gunners are not going to find a replacement as good, left-footed at 24, on the cheap.
Bought for £25million, Arsenal would surely request a much larger fee – one closer to double their original outlay. As is they way with Barcelona at the moment, it is unclear if they will actually be able to afford Gabriel.
