Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ilkay Gundogan, but Barcelona reportedly believe that the Manchester City midfielder will move to Camp Nou.

Barcelona think Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan will join them

According to a report in Spanish publication SPORT this month, Arsenal want to sign Gundogan in the summer transfer window.

The Germany international midfielder is out of contract at defending Premier League champions Manchester City at the end of the season.

The Athletic have reported that Barcelona believe that they will be able to secure the services of the £165,000-a-week (SalarySport) star.

The report has claimed that the former La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners think that Gundogan could move to Barcelona on a lower salary than he is on at City at the moment if they “were to offer him a deal over multiple years”.

HITC Verdict: Camp Nou transfer more likely

In our view, it is unlikely that Ilkay Gundogan will join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

We do not think that the German star would move to another Premier League club if he left City at the end of the season.

A transfer to Barcelona and playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world could be hugely appealing to Gundogan.
