Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim Wolves are about to complete the signing of Barcelona midfielder Nico Gonzalez immediately after their capture of Goncalo Guedes – with the report saying he is ‘about to move’.
Spain Under-21 international Gonzalez, 20, broke into the senior Barcelona squad from the La Masia academy last season. He clocked up 36 appearances in all competitions, but has just entered the final two years of his contract.
Naturally a central midfielder, he was also used in holding midfield and even out wide. The youngster scored two goals and laid on two assists for Barcelona – but a Wolves is now said to be imminent. He is a client of Jorge Mendes.
Wolves announced both the departure of Conor Coady to Everton on a loan-to-buy deal, and the signing of Guedes on Monday. Now, they could be about to follow up Guedes’ arrival with the addition of midfielder Gonzalez.

Wolves about to complete Gonzalez signing
This is a properly good signing, for a number of reasons. Firstly, Gonzalez is a huge talent, a product of the widely-esteemed La Masia. Cesc Fabregas summed him up, stating it not all about goals and assists – but work rate too.
Fabregas said, as per Tribal Football, last season: “Not everything is the ball and giving assists or scoring goals. The number of kilometers that has been hit up and down helping in defence and high pressure it has been spectacular.”
So clearly, Wolves are signing a player that might not get them a ton of goals and assists. But a player that will work his socks off in midfield. Ruben Neves is likely to go either this summer or next, given his contractual situation.
Joao Moutinho turns 36 in September. So, adding a player like Gonzalez is not only a good signing given his potential. But because he offers Wolves some much-needed tenacity and work rate in midfield. He is the future.
