Newcastle United face tough competition for the signing of Patrik Schick with FC Barcelona now in the race to sign the Czech Republic international.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga titans are keen on signing the Bundesliga marksman. Barcelona want to add a top-quality striker in the summer, with the likes of Paulo Dybala and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also on their shortlist alongside Schick.

As reported by Sky Sports News, Newcastle also want to sign Schick. However, Bayer Leverkusen have valued their star attacker at £50m, a fee with the Toon and Barcelona are unlikely to match this January.

With Schick hitting an astonishing 18 goals in 20 matches in all competitions this season, it’s no wonder why both Newcastle and Barcelona are keen on the forward and why Leverkusen have set the price tag so high for the 25-year-old.

After a breakout Euro 2020 with the Czech Republic, Schick has ridden the wave of the summer tournament with a season to remember for the Bundesliga side, with Newcastle and Barcelona likely to duke it out this year for the forward.

Indeed, the attacker has been one of the best strikers in Europe this season. And for Newcastle, Barcelona’s interest in Schick is a hammer blow to Eddie Howe’s side, who could move for the forward in the summer.

All signs seem to indicate that Schick will be a target for clubs in the summer, and for the former RB Leipzig star, the decision to join Barcelona over Newcastle should be an obvious next step for the attacker.

After all, there’s a strong chance Newcastle will be playing Championship football next season. And for Schick, a move to a rising Barcelona squad will be infinitely more appealing than a big-money move to the northeast with the Toon.
