Barcelona and Liverpool will reportedly meet today over a possible deal for Luis Suarez.
Spanish newspaper AS has reported that Barcelona and Liverpool will meet today to start initial talks over a potential deal for striker Luis Suarez.
Suarez’s recent four month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini has lead to the suggestion that Brendan Rodgers’ side should cash in on the Uruguayan, who they won’t be able to use for a large chunk of next season and AS suggests that things are certainly heading in that direction.
“Representatives from Liverpool and Barcelona have arranged to meet in London on Wednesday to begin talks for the definitive transfer of Luis Suárez to the Catalan club,” reports AS.
Liverpool have been put in a very awkward position by the striker who very nearly fired them to the Premier League title last season.
Sell Suarez and the club lose their best player but stand by him and Rodgers will be criticised with several psychological analysts suggesting Suarez is capable of yet another repeat of the poor discipline which has created his ban.
The fee being talked about in various reports touches on the £80 million mark, which would be a substantial boost to the cash available to Rodgers to spend this summer.
If Suarez is cashed in then Liverpool can feasibly use a large chunk of his fee to go after one of the best strikers in Europe to come in and emulate the sort of partnership Suarez has formed with Daniel Sturridge.
“Both clubs are expected to put forward their own position on the sale of the Uruguayan striker – Barcelona have stated their interest in buying the player and Liverpool are keen to sell – but only at the right price.”
Liverpool are well within their rights to hold out for every penny of Suarez’s buy-out clause if they have made their minds up to sell him.
Putting his disciplinary problems to one side, he is a world class striker when he’s focused on purely his playing performance and any sale from Liverpool’s point of view creates a huge hole in their squad.
It will be interesting to see how any talks pan out.
