Liverpool are reportedly set to keep hold of striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have convinced striker Taiwo Awoniyi to snub rival interest and sign a new five-year contract at Anfield.
The Reds swooped to land Awoniyi in 2015 after impressing for Nigeria at youth level, as he has 11 goals in 17 outings for Nigeria at Under-17 and Under-20 levels.
Awoniyi has been sent out on loan so far, firstly with FSV Frankfurt and then NEC Nijmegen, before spending last term with Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium, hitting 10 goals in 31 games.
The striker hasn’t been able to get a work permit so far, and TEAMtalk report that Liverpool will again loan him out this season, after he has penned a new five-year contract with the club.
Liverpool allegedly feel that Awoniyi, 20, is ‘something special’ and have moved to secure his future until 2023, amid strong interest from England and abroad.
It’s claimed that Tottenham Hotspur – as well as Chelsea and Manchester City – were looking to snap up Awoniyi, whilst Barcelona and Inter Milan were also ready to move.

However, the powerful forward will be a Liverpool player for years to come, and the Reds will be hoping that he can become a first-team player once he receives a work permit to play in England.
