According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid have picked out Getafe’s Mauro Arambarri as a replacement for Thomas Partey.

The report notes that Atletico’s pursuit of Arambarri is likely because they’re going to lose a midfielder this summer.

All signs point towards Partey according to this report, with Arsenal once again brought up as a club in the mix.

This states that Arsenal are prepared to pay the €50million (£44.5million) release clause in Partey’s contract and bring him to North London.

That seems a little hard to believe right now. The global pandemic has hit the budgets of clubs around the world, and Arsenal are no different.

The Gunners are hardly in a position to splash that kind of cash right now, even if they would love to bring Partey to the club.

Ghanaian international Partey would be the ideal addition to the Arsenal, bringing a real enforcer ability to Mikel Arteta’s midfield as well as the winning mentality many develop under Diego Simeone.

Unless Arsenal make a big sale or tempt Atletico into a swap, it’s hard to imagine the Partey move coming off any time soon.

Still, with Uruguayan star Arambarri being lined up to replace him, Atletico are at least showing that they’re preparing for life after Partey.
