According to Ghana Soccernet, Atletico Madrid have found a potential replacement for Arsenal target Thomas Partey; Mallorca talent Iddrisu Baba.

It’s claimed that Atletico have started looking for potential replacements. One of the names they have come up with is Baba, having impressed in La Liga.

The 24-year-old had been with Leganes B and Mallorca B before stepping up to Mallorca’s first team in 2018. He is now almost undroppable for Vicente Moreno’s side.

The parallels between the Baba and Partey are easy to see. They’re both Ghanaian internationals, they are both holding midfielders, both stand at around six feet tall an both impressed for Mallorca.

It now seems that Baba could follow in Partey’s footsteps by becoming part of Diego Simeone’s first team with Atletico. He has four years left on his Mallorca deal though, which may be an issue.

This may be great news for Arsenal. They have been linked with Partey for months now, with the 26-year-old potentially their top summer target.

Atletico have offered Partey a new deal according to The Guardian. So far, he has resisted their attempts to keep him.

Arsenal had allegedly made contact with Partey’s agent, but no deal has been done. The €50million (£44.5million) release clause may be a problem, with Arsenal needing to be careful given the global pandemic.

Atletico viewing compatriot and international teammate Baba as his replacement is a step in the right direction for Arsenal, but it will ultimately come down to money.
