Manchester City’s Karim Rekik has been linked with a number of clubs this summer.
According to a report from Spanish paper AS, Manchester City’s Karim Rekik has been touted as a potential shock replacement for Miranda and Tottenham Hotspur-linked Toby Alderweireld at Atletico Madrid.
The 20-year-old centre-back joined City in 2011 and spent the past few years out on loan, earning plenty of plaudits during PSV Eindhoven’s title win last season.
His future at the Etihad Stadium, however, has been the subject of some debate as heavy competition for places means the likelihood of first-team football is slim to say the least.
A report in the Manchester Evening News claimed the Citizens were willing to sell Rekik, placing both PSV and Marseille on alert though fresh reports indicate his future could lie at a far bigger club in La Liga.
“Ahead of the possible departures of Miranda and Alderweireld, Los Rojiblancos’ technical team is scanning the market for possible replacements. It is reported that Dutch centre-back Karim Rekik, who last season played for PSV on loan from Manchester City, is one possibility,” AS reports.

While fellow youngster Jason Denayer is presumably ahead of Rekik in the pecking order, the club would be mad to allow a talented centre-back to leave, considering his progression.
Last season, the one-capped Dutch international proved his capabilities at PSV and his inclusion in the first-team XI helped form a key cog in the team’s title-winning campaign.
With Martin Demichelis ageing and Eliaquim Mangala yet to impress, City will need to plan for the future and in Rekik they have potentially a very good centre-back on their hands.
