Aston Villa are due to take on Birmingham City in two weekends’ time, in what looks set to be a fiercely contested match.

According to a report in the Daily Record, Aston Villa’s John McGinn has picked up an injury on international duty, which puts him in doubt for their match against Birmingham City.

McGinn has damaged his calf, and is now expected to miss out on playing for Scotland over the international break.

The midfielder’s fitness problems are bad news for Scotland and potentially Villa, ahead of their clash with Birmingham.

Although it is not yet clear just how severe McGinn’s injury is, there must be some concern in Villa’s camp that the central midfielder could miss out.

Dean Smith has gone on record to state that he has been shocked at just how good McGinn has been since he arrived at Villa Park.

The summer signing has been one of the claret and blues’ most integral players so far this term, with his performances catching the eye.

McGinn scored for Villa in their last match against Derby County, and is surely in line to start against Birmingham if he is fit.

And Smith will be hoping that McGinn returns from international duty in good enough condition to recover for the Midlands derby in two weekends’ time.
