Steve Clarke has taken charge at Aston Villa following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo.
According to a report in the Guardian, Aston Villa’s board have been impressed by the way that their players have reacted to Steve Clarke’s management.
Clarke has taken over at Villa following the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo last Monday, and has led the players in training over the past week.
While some of Villa’s stars have been away on international duty, the bulk of the squad have remained in the Midlands.
And Villa’s board are said to have been impressed by the way that Clarke has galvanised the squad.
Clarke is, therefore, still in contention to land the permanent manager’s job at Villa, but he remains an outsider for the role.
Villa are most likely to appoint Steve Bruce, after holding an interview with the former Hull City boss earlier this week.
The Claret and Blues have made a disappointing start to their Championship campaign, and currently sit in 19th place in the table.
Villa have won just one match so far this term, and return to action with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers next weekend.
