Survival in the Premier League was a massive boost for Aston Villa. The Villans looked doomed at one point, but managed to get out of the bottom three on the final day.
That makes things very interesting ahead of the new season. The question on everyone’s mind was if Jack Grealish would stay at the club for another year after helping his side stay up.
Villa fans would love nothing more than for their skipper to stay and the club’s chiefs seem to have heard the supporters’ plea.
The Sun claims that Villa are preparing a £100,000-a-week contract to convince Grealish to extend his stay at the club. The skipper is not short of suitors, with Manchester United reportedly keen to secure his services this summer.
However, the current financial climate makes it difficult for interested sides to meet Aston Villa’s £80 million valuation (Sun) which makes the club’s attempts to renew his contract arguably easier.
Two other Villa stars to get new deals
Grealish was one of the biggest reasons why Villa managed to stay up this season. However, there were a couple of others who played a big part and their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
The report claims that Villa are also lining up new deals for Tyrone Mings and John McGinn. That shows real ambition from the owners who are aiming to climb higher up the table next season.
McGinn played a massive part in Villa’s midfield and his injury midway through the season showed just how integral he was. The Scot, like Grealish, attracted interest from the bigger clubs and it is only fair that he gets rewarded for his performances.
Mings has arguably been Villa’s most important player apart from Grealish. The former Bournemouth man played a key role in helping the club achieve promotion from the Championship, and his performances in the Premier League have been just as good.
Villa fans will be hoping that all three of them agree to extend their stay at the club. Some fans were resigned to losing Grealish a few weeks ago. But survival from relegation and the current financial climate could help them keep hold of their star man for another year at the very least.
