Aston Villa looked destined for relegation at one point last season, but they delivered when it mattered and managed to avoid the drop.

Dean Smith’s side are yet to start their season in the Premier League. The Villans have had a bright start in the transfer window thanks to a couple of impressive signings already.

Villa have signed Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest and Ollie Watkins from Brentford for a club-record fee. Both players are excellent additions to Smith’s squad but it looks like they are bringing in a few more.

Arsenal’s Emiliano Martinez is expected to join the club very soon. The £20 million deal for the Argentine shot-stopper is being held up by a contractual complication, but it is expected to go through in the very near future (Express and Star).

The big signing for Villa, however, will reportedly be that of Bertrand Traore. The former Chelsea man has been linked with a move with to the Villans for some time now, and it is finally set to happen very soon.

Traore is set to complete his move to Villa on Wednesday

Made In Foot claim that Villa and Lyon have agreed a fee between £17.5 million and £18.5 million for the Burkina Faso international.

Personal terms between the player and the club has also been agreed and the move is expected to go through without any complications.

Foot Mercato claim that Traore completed his medical on Monday ahead of a potential move. He will fly over to Birmingham on Wednesday to sign his contract with Villa, which would make him their second offensive signing of this summer.

The Lyon man was once expected to be the future of Chelsea. Things didn’t quite work out at Stamford Bridge but, after a good loan spell at Ajax, the winger made his way to Lyon back in the summer of 2017.

Traore has had his ups and downs in the Ligue 1 but he could prove to be a very good signing for Villa. He is still only 25; the expectations will be a lot lesser than it was in Lyon and, if he hits the ground running, he could become a real star for the club this season.
