Nahki Wells could leave Premier League high-flyers Burnley after just half a season with Championship outfit Aston Villa hoping to strike a January deal.

Life just hasn’t gone to plan for Nahki Wells at Burnley so far. Despite winning promotion to the Premier League with Huddersfield Town last season, the Bermudan striker jumped ship to Burnley instead in a £5 million summer deal, according to the BBC.

Thanks largely to injury, however, Wells is still yet to make a single appearance for his new club.

And the Birmingham Mail claim that the former Bradford City prospect could be on his way out of Turf Moor as early as January – if only on a temporary basis.

The report states that Aston Villa are hoping to bring in a quality striker during the January transfer window without spending a penny – which has led them to consider a move for Wells in the New Year.

And just to add credence to the reports, Villa were understood to have been interested in the 27-year-old even before he completed that move to Burnley on transfer deadline day in August.

So it wouldn’t look a bad move at all if Villa are able to land Wells on loan just a few months after he would have cost them a big transfer fee – one the club were possibly unable to afford due to strict Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Last season’s top scorer Jonathan Kodjia is out for a few months with an ankle injury, leaving the young Keinan Davis and the disappointing Scott Hogan as Steve Bruce’s current striking options.

Wells, however, hit double figures in all three of his full Championship seasons as a Huddersfield player so would be welcomed with open arms.
