According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are interested in a remarkable move to bring Ashley Young back to Villa Park 10 years after he departed.
The former England international’s Inter Milan contract is up, and the Villans are seemingly keen to bring him back to his old stomping ground.
Young was fantastic back in the day for Villa, making the Premier League Team of the Year on two occasions, but it’s fair to say a lot has changed since then.
Indeed, at the age of 35, Young is a different player to the one we saw at Villa, he’s now much more of a defensive-minded player rather than a speedy and tricky winger.
However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing for Villa’s squad. With Ahmed Elmhohammady and Neil Taylor leaving the club, Dean Smith needs some reinforcement at full-back, and Young would provide that.
This would also be a popular move amongst the fanbase, after all, Young is a bit of a modern-day Villa legend, and also a modern Premier League legend.
Indeed, as a three-time Premier League Player of the Month winner, a title winner, a Europa League winner and an FA Cup winner, Young is one of the most decorated players in modern times, and that’s before we even mention his recent Serie A triumph.
Other Premier League clubs have also been credited with an interest in Young, including Watford, who he played for before joining Aston Villa the first time around, so this may not be a straightforward deal for the Villans.
