The Daily Star claim Aston Villa are pursuing a deal for either Brighton star Yves Bissouma, or Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi. Steven Gerrard has been handed £50million by Villa’s hierarchy to bring in a midfielder.

Villa do need a holding midfielder. Douglas Luiz is the club’s current option, alongside John McGinn. But the Brazil international looks as though he could leave the club – with his current deal due to expire in June 2023.

Beyond Luiz, Villa lack options. Indeed, one of those is Marvelous Nakamba but he has been injured – and is hardly the long-term future of Villa’s midfield. Bissouma and Ndidi have been targeted to fill the gap.

Villa made an offer of £30million for Bissouma in the summer – but Brighton want as much as £45million, with Newcastle and Arsenal also keen. Brendan Rodgers does not want to lose Ndidi.

But he does know that Leicester are renowned for accepting big offers for their key players and then reinvesting – the likes of Ben Chilwell, Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez etc. So, the Nigeria ace could end up at Villa.

Villa eye Ndidi and Bissouma: Leicester star a stunning signing

Bissouma has been regularly linked and a move for the Brighton star is likely to occur this summer – with the Seagulls ace in the last 18 months of his current deal. But Ndidi would be an incredible signing.

While Bissouma is a top, top player, Ndidi has shown he can do it at the top level. Still only 25, Ndidi would be a wonderful signing for Villa and it might be that he is worth paying slightly more to sign, than Bissouma.
