Scott Hogan will leave Premier League newcomers Aston Villa but is he returning to the Championship with Queens Park Rangers?
Scott Hogan could be set for a reunion with Mark Warburton as Queens Park Rangers hatch a plan to sign the Aston Villa flop this summer, according to West London Sport.
Warburton was in charge of Brentford when Hogan arrived at Griffin Park from Rochdale for a bargain £750,000 five years ago and, despite suffering some serious injuries early in his Bees career, the Republic of Ireland international would soon land the Londoners a substantial profit.
Aston Villa paid an eye-watering £12 million to lure the 27-year-old to the Midlands in January 2017 but little has gone right for him since.
Form and fitness has remained elusive as an Aston Villa player while a loan spell at Sheffield United didn’t go to plan either. In fact, Hogan has scored just nine goals in 69 games since that £12 million switch.
And West London Sport claims that Aston Villa are now hoping to find the Republic of Ireland international a new club with Warburton interested in handing him a fresh start at QPR.
His hefty wage demands might prove to be a stumbling block for a QPR side working on a limited budget but, if Hogan can recapture the form that saw him score 14 goals in 25 games for Brentford in the first half of 2016/17, he’ll be worth every penny.
Warburton was delighted to sign Hogan in 2014, lauding his ‘obvious goalscoring ability’ (Bristol Post), and he’d be thrilled to get the deal over the line five years on.
