Everton defender Ashley Williams is reportedly on Aston Villa’s radar this summer.

Aston Villa are amongst the sides keen on signing Everton defender Ashley Williams with the Wales international expected to leave Goodison Park in the summer, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (28/4; page 62).

Williams is out of contract on Merseyside, and it would be a huge surprise if he is handed a new deal with the Toffees. The 34-year-old has played 33 times in the Championship for Stoke City this season, and will have been looking on as Marco Silva continues to build an impressive defensive unit.

The centre-back looks set to not be short of options in the summer however, with The Sun on Sunday (28/4; page 62) reporting that the Villans are interested in a potential deal for Williams, while Huddersfield Town, New York City and DC United are also keen.

A move to the latter would see Williams link up with former Everton teammate Wayne Rooney. But it remains to be seen whether he feels that now is the time in his career where he wants to join Major League Soccer.

Joining Dean Smith’s men would surely be an incredibly appealing option for the former Swansea City stalwart. Villa still have every chance of securing promotion back to the Premier League this season having booked their place in the Championship play-off spots.

The Villans are the side with all the momentum right now having won their last 10 games. But with a number of their defensive players only at the club on loan, it is little surprise that Smith is making plans for the summer.

It would be a surprise however, if Villa did pursue a deal for Williams after securing promotion should they manage to get across the line. He would give the squad more depth, but he is coming towards the end of his career and some Everton fans may insist that he is no longer good enough for the top flight.
