Bristol City are said to want £18 million more than Aston Villa have already offered.
Aston Villa will make an improved bid for the Bristol City centre-back, Adam Webster, according to The Daily Mirror (June 27, page 65).
The newspaper echoes reports that Aston Villa have already had a £12 million offer turned down.
It fails to state, however, how far the Villans are willing to go, with Bristol City having set an asking price of £30 million, according to Bristol Live.
The Aston Villa manager, Dean Smith, is keen to strengthen his defensive options, despite having already signed the Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back, Kortney Hause, on a permanent basis.
And Webster has emerged as one possible solution, with the Villans’ pursuit of another two of their former loan stars, Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings, yet to bear fruit.
The 24-year-old starred for Portsmouth and Ipswich Town before joining Bristol City a year ago, in a deal worth a potential £8 million, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.
