Aston Villa are set to announce Douglas Luiz as their ninth summer signing this week, according to a report.

Douglas Luiz of Girona FC looks on during the La Liga match between Sevilla FC and Girona FC at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on December 16, 2018 in Seville, Spain.

Aston Villa announced the capture of their eighth summer signing on Tuesday – and the ninth is reportedly only days away.

The Villans unveiled centre-back Bjorn Engels last night as the Belgian added to what’s been a stunning transfer window for the newly-promoted Premier League side so far.

But it’s about to get better, according to a report.

The Express and Star have claimed that the signing of Douglas Luiz will be confirmed over the ‘coming days’.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa will be paying around £15 million for the Manchester City starlet, who can play in all three midfield positions – defensive, central and attacking.

If and when the Luiz deal is confirmed, it will take Dean Smith’s spending to the £115 million-mark, providing the £15 million transfer fee is accurate.

The addition of Engels saw Aston Villa hit £100 million in expenditure [Sky Sports] this summer.

Smith’s side kick off their pre-season preparations with a visit to United States outfit Minnesota in the early hours of Thursday morning.
