Wigan Athletic forward Nick Powell looks like he may be about to reject interest from Championship promotion chasers Aston Villa.

Powell has enjoyed a brilliant season with the League One side. Wigan look to be well on their way to securing automatic promotion back to the second tier as they sit seven points clear of third place Blackburn – and Powell’s form has been a key reason for their success.

The former Manchester United man has scored 11 goals in 22 league appearances to top the club’s scoring charts for the campaign, and that has caught the eye of Steve Bruce.

The Sun hints that the takeover at the DW Stadium may have an impact on whether the 23-year-old does stick around, and that would undoubtedly be a major boost for the Latics and a blow for Villa.
Villa are fifth in the Championship after winning their last two league games – including beating automatic promotion chasers Bristol City 5-0 – but their position is still fairly precarious and having that little bit of additional quality going forward may have been extremely valuable.
