Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that assistant manager Colin Calderwood has resigned form his post, amid a report in the Telegraph which claimed he was a target for Aston Villa.
Calderwood was reportedly told to stay away from Friday’s fixture against Villa, having emerged as the Midlands’ number 1 target to assist Steve Bruce.
Villa boss Bruce has been searching for a new right-hand man since his appointment at the start of October and is said to have interviewed former Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope this week (Birmingham Mail).
But according to the Telegraph, Calderwood is now the preferred choice of Villa’s technical director Steve Round, who is leading the recruitment process.

Calderwood, the former Nottingham Forest manager, ironically worked alongside Trollope under Brighton boss Chris Hughton at both Birmingham City and Norwich, and the 57-year-old was said to be reluctant to lose his trusted number 2.
Villa, who trail second place Brighton by 13 points ahead of the Amex Stadium clash, have already been linked with a January move for Seagulls midfielder Beram Kayal (the Sun).
