Burnley winger George Boyd is out of contract at the end of the season and could be an astute signing for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness indicated recently that the club would take a more considered approach to the transfer market this time around after last summer’s wide-ranging recruitment drive.

And, according to the Daily Mirror, Villa may already be laying the foundations for a successful second season in the Championship by planning an astute move for soon-to-be free-agent George Boyd.

The Daily Mail reported recently that the 31-year-old winger has rejected current club Burnley’s offer of a one-year contract as he wants a longer-term deal. As such, there is no shortage of interest in the top two tiers for the winger, especially on the back of his match-winning performance in last week’s 1-0 win against Stoke City.

And Boyd would certainly fit the bill if he was to swap one claret and blue kit for another and move to Villa Park upon the expiry of his contract. The experienced wideman would at least give Villa options on the left hand side of midfield, with full-back Jordan Amavi often having to play in a more advanced role.

Furthermore, Boyd has plenty of Championship experience having won promotions to the top flight with both Burnley and Hull City.

And let’s not forget that the former Peterborough United favourite knows Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce very well indeed. The 56-year-old signed Boyd for Hull first on loan and then on a permanent deal in 2013 and, with a mutual respect between both player and manager, it would be no surprise if they were to reunite once again in the summer.
