Report: Aston Villa target £25m spend on Johnstone, Snodgrass and Grabban

Aston Villa are making plans for if they manage to get themselves promoted out of the Championship this season.

According to a report from The Sun (06/05; page 64), Aston Villa are considering spending up to £25 million during the summer if promoted as they look to keep hold of their three loan stars.

The Villans can go into the final day of the season in a relaxed mood. Steve Bruce’s men are fourth in the Championship and will finish in that position regardless of how they get on in their clash with Millwall. It appears, in all likelihood, that they will probably be coming up against Middlesbrough in their play-off semi-final.

There is a long way to go, but the Villans are making provisional plans in case they are the ones celebrating at Wembley before the end of the month.

The Sun (06/05; page 64) reports that Villa are looking at spending £25 million to keep Sam Johnstone, Robert Snodgrass and Lewis Grabban on a permanent basis after their impressive loan spells.

Johnstone has established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Championship and would be keen to join Villa on a permanent basis if they promoted, The Sun reports.

Snodgrass has been one of the stars of the season after an extremely difficult spell at West Ham. The former Leeds winger has scored seven goals and provided 14 assists in the second tier.

The Sun adds that Bournemouth are like to want more than the £8 million that they spent on Grabban after his impressive year. After scoring 12 goals with Sunderland, he earned a move to Villa in January and has scored eight times in 14 appearances having initially struggled to break into the starting lineup.

Given how influential the trio have been and the riches that will come their way if they manage to go up this term, it could be argued that spending £25 million on the three players would have to go down as a real bargain.

Life will be much tougher in the top flight if they get there, of course, but their form in the Championship suggests that they may be ready to help re-establish the Villans back at the highest level after a couple of years of rebuilding.
