Aston Villa have expressed an interest in signing Swansea City winger and Ghana international Andre Ayew, according to Football Ghana.

The 29-year-old has spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, where he made 38 appearances in all competitions including five in the Europa League according to Transfermarkt.

Ayew has three years’ experience of playing in England, originally linking up with the Swans in June 2015 and enjoying a very fruitful first stint at the club, before making the switch to West Ham United the following summer.

The attacking ace remained with the East London club until January 2018, when he moved back to Swansea, but he could not prevent the Welsh outfit from suffering relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, after which he made the loan switch to Fenerbahce.

According to the Ghanaian outlet, Villa manager Dean Smith is looking to bolster his ranks ahead of their return to the top flight after a three-year absence and has identified Ayew as a prospective signing, while the Swans are looking to offload the player in order to cut costs.

The player, who is contracted to Swansea until the summer of 2021 (Transfermarkt), has been named by Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah as permanent Black Stars captain ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament according to BBC Sport.
