The Greek giants have reportedly made contact with Villa over the Ghana international’s availability.
Olympiakos have made an approach to sign Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew, according to Greek outlet Sport24.
Ayew, 24, joined Villa from French outfit Lorient last summer after enjoying a breakout season in Ligue 1 and went on establish himself as one of the club’s better performers during their failed bid to avoid relegation, scoring a team-leading seven goals in 30 Premier League appearances.
Rumours have since been rampant that the £8.5 million forward could be set to leave B6, with the likes of West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United named as potential suitors over recent weeks [h/t Birmingham Mail].
New Villa owner Tony Xia has remained adamant that the Ghana international will be staying at the club for the foreseeable future, but the latest reports suggest that there could yet be a battle for his signature during the closing stages of the transfer window.
According to Sport24, Olympiakos are desperate to land a new forward before Wednesday’s deadline but have so far been unable to agree a move for their main target, Trabzonspor’s Oscar Cardozo.
The Greek giants have now reportedly turned their attentions to Ayew as they seeks out alternative options and are believed to have made initial contact with Villa over a deal for the former Marseille man.
In the meantime, Ayew has started every one of Villa’s first six games this season while playing mostly out wide, scoring one goal in the shock 3-1 EFL Cup first-round defeat at League Two’s Luton Town.
The pacey front man has shown numerous flashes of brilliance in the process, but plenty of fans have also argued that he has looked disinterred at times and criticised him for his selfishness on the ball.
Manager Roberto Di Matteo clearly views him as a key player in his side, regardless, but it remains to be seen whether a large offer could convince the club to cash in on the Ghanaian’s signature before the transfer window closes.
