According to France Football, Aston Villa are still interested in signing Harold Moukoudi – but Borussia Dortmund now want the Le Havre defender.

Villa have made a strong start to the January transfer window having brought in goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic from Gent, but at least one new defender has to be a top priority.

Wolves’ Kortney Hause is a main target, but it seems that Le Havre ace Moukoudi is back on the radar after failing in the summer.

Moukoudi snubbed a move to Villa over the summer, but France Football report that Villa are still hoping to lure the Frenchman to Villa Park in 2019.

The problem is that major German clubs are now keen, with Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg believed to be keen – and taking on those teams, especially Dortmund, may be difficult for Championship Villa.

Moukoudi told France Bleu after snubbing Villa that he was really impressed with their facilities, but didn’t think their style of play under Steve Bruce really matched with what he wanted.

Villa are now playing a much more expansive brand of football under Dean Smith, so it may at least be worth re-establishing contact this month to gauge whether Moukoudi’s stance has changed at all.

The 21-year-old centre back has picked up four caps for France’s Under-20’s, and has impressed with Le Havre, the same club who provided a stepping stone for the likes of Paul Pogba, Riyad Mahrez and Dimitri Payet.
