Manchester City are giving serious consideration to bringing £15 million Douglas Luiz back to the Etihad, with Aston Villa aware that the midfielder’s future may lie elsewhere, according to 90Min.

As long as that £25 million buy-back clause exists in the contract of this Brazil international, Villa will never be able to sleep easy.

With Fernandinho now 35, and spending much of his time on the treatment table these days, it seems only a matter of time before City start banging on the door for a player who caught Pep Guardiola’s eye during the pre-season tour of 2018.

According to 90Min, the four-time Premier League champions have been suitably impressed by the way Luiz has started the 2020/21 season in claret and blue.

The tireless 22-year-old would certainly add some much-needed bite and energy to a City midfield that, in clashes with the likes of Leicester and Leeds United, appeared to have all the resistance of cotton candy.

90Min adds that Aston Villa would ideally love to remove the buy-back clause from Luiz’s contract, but there is an acceptance that this simply isn’t going to happen.

The power is in City’s hands.

While Luiz is loving life at Villa, the chance to fight for silverware and play Champions League football alongside Kevin de Bruyne and co may be impossible to turn down.
