John Terry is reportedly one of the contenders for the Aston Villa post, and the squad have given the former defender their backing.

The Mirror reports that the Championship side’s board offered Henry the chance to be Steve Bruce’s successor following talks at the weekend, but the Frenchman is now looking set to join the Principality club as they try to turn their season around.
The Mirror suggests that Terry will look to get Bruce’s blessing before taking the post, but he is keen on potentially succeeding the man who signed him for Villa last summer.

It could potentially be deemed a gamble to hand Terry the job given that he has only just retired and is yet to secure any managerial experience. But the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are showing that experience does not decide on its own whether a manager will enjoy success or not.
And after proving to be so influential during his one year as a player on Villa’s books, it would be no surprise if Terry was able to galvanise the squad if he was given the job now that Henry appears to be out of the running.
