Aston Villa are seemingly set to beat the likes of Leeds United, West Ham, Sheffield United and Fulham to the signature of Nottingham Forest’s rising star, Matty Cash.
The Independent have claimed that personal terms between Villa and Cash have been finalised as the Midlands outfit will play up to £15 million for his services.
If Dean Smith can get his signature over the line then he will beat a strong crop of teams who wanted to secure his talents – Leeds, West Ham and Sheffield United were just some of the teams linked, as previously reported by The Star and Sky Sports.
It could be argued that right-back isn’t an area that Villa need to strengthen because they have the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady and 2019 signing Fred Guilbert vying for that spot.
This clearly means that Elmohamady’s time at Villa Park is over because Guilbert only recently joined the club and it would be a surprise if Smith axed the Frenchman in such a ruthless manner.
Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that Cash is one of the most exciting players producing the goods in England’s second-tier.
The Forest man can operate in the middle of the park, on the wings, but the technically-gifted player had been doing his stuff at right-back during this recently concluded campaign.
Regardless of where Cash ends up, he would do wonders, whether it’s playing in Smith’s system where he likes to overload in the wide areas, for Marcelo Bielsa, whose team don’t let you settle for one second or for Moyes, who is more constructive and defensive-minded.
