Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Kortney Hause.

According to a report from The Sun, Wolves have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for Kortney Hause as Dean Smith looks to improve his defensive options during his first window with the club.

The Sun reports that Smith has prioritised signing a new left-sided centre-back this month, and Hause is a player that has caught his eye. And it appears that a move is edging closer to completion.

The report suggests that the Villans have had a bid accepted by the Premier League side, and the 23-year-old will now undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Championship club.

Hause has struggled for game-time at Molineux this term, making just two appearances in the Carabao Cup. He has however, made 67 appearances for the club.

His lack of minutes since Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival may concern some Villa fans, but he is still young enough to improve significantly in the coming years, and Smith could be the ideal coach to take his game to the next level.

Villa certainly have the attacking options to put themselves right in the promotion mix during the remaining months of the campaign. If Smith can get their defensive additions right during the January window, then it will be difficult to imagine the Villans not being one of the three sides that get promoted this year.
