Aston Villa could sign free agent Christopher Samba.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are preparing a contract offer to defender Christopher Samba after his trial period with the club.

Samba, 33, first joined up with Villa back in February as he began training with Steve Bruce’s side, and remained at Villa Park until the end of the season.

Bruce decided to bring Samba back to Villa Park for pre-season training, and having featured in friendlies, the veteran defender could be on the verge of winning a deal with Villa.

The Daily Mail report that Villa are preparing to offer Samba a contract to join the club on a permanent basis, which would see him become the second centre back signed by Villa this summer after John Terry’s arrival.

Samba brings vast experience of English football having featured for Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers, whilst he also had spells in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala and Dinamo Moscow.

The Congo international centre back, who stands at a gigantic 6ft 4in tall, has been a free agent since being released by Panathinaikos in January, and Villa now look set to hand him a return to the game.

Samba’s potential move means that manager Bruce is continuing his apparent transfer strategy this summer, which has been to bring in players with vast experience to seemingly create a strong dressing room.

Samba joins Terry (36), Glenn Whelan (33) and Ahmed Elmohamady (29) in arriving at Villa Par this summer, with Sam Johnstone the only addition so far to have fewer than 150 Premier League appearances to his name.
