Aston Villa are reportedly renewing their interest in Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are back in the market for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes after his inauspicious start to life at Hillsborough.
Rhodes, 27, joined Middlesbrough in January 2016 but moved on after just a year having scored only six goals in 24 appearances for Boro before they loaned him out to Sheffield Wednesday with a view to a permanent deal.
The former Huddersfield and Blackburn star has also failed to settle with the Owls, scoring three goals in 20 games last term, and he was substituted after 57 minutes against Preston on Saturday after a poor display.
Now, some believe that Wednesday could already cash in on Rhodes having signed him permanently earlier this summer, and the Daily Mail now claim that Aston Villa are plotting a new move for the striker.
Villa’s leading striker Jonathan Kodjia is still out injured any may be out for another month yet, whilst Scott Hogan has failed to hit the ground running since a big-money move from Brentford in January, meaning manager Steve Bruce may pursue another striker before the end of the transfer window.
In January, Bruce told the Birmingham Mail that he attempted to bring Rhodes to Villa Park, but the deal hit the buffers before Middlesbrough allowed him to join Wednesday instead.
It remains to be seen whether Wednesday are willing to let Rhodes go, but with manager Carlos Carvalhal also having the likes of Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao at his disposal, Villa could tempt them into a deal.
The problem Villa face is that they are already up against Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning that a cash deal for Rhodes seems almost impossible right now, and a loan deal could be difficult to pull off right now after Wednesday splashed so much money on him this summer.
