Aston Villa are reportedly looking at long-time target Joe Bryan now that they appear to be in a much better financial situation.

According to a report from Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are considering whether to make a £3.5 million bid for Bristol City star Joe Bryan as Steve Bruce looks to make the most of the time remaining before the initial transfer deadline.

The Villans’ well-publicised financial concerns from earlier in the summer have seemingly prevented the club from getting any players in permanently thus far. Andre Moreira has arrived on loan, but he remains the club’s only addition as things stand.

But with new majority shareholders now in place, Birmingham Live reports that Villa have the resources to buy players again and are ready to consider making a seven-figure bid for Bryan.

Birmingham Live adds that Bryan is a long-time target for Villa and Bruce is keen to strengthen his ranks at left-back with Neil Taylor currently the only natural option within the senior squad.

Bryan would be a fantastic signing

There have been few better defenders in the Championship over the last year than Bryan, who was a key part of the Bristol City side that surprised many in the second tier last term and went on a run in the League Cup that culminated with a spirited semi-final defeat against Manchester City.

His attacking intent has allowed the 24-year-old to make a fairly devastating impact at both ends of the pitch, and he undoubtedly has the potential to get even better in the coming years.

It would be no surprise if the Robins had no interest in selling for £3.5 million, but Villa should undoubtedly keep themselves in the race because he could prove to be a bargain signing even if he left for a significantly higher price.
