Aston Villa expressed to take Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United, according to a report.

The Manchester Evening News have claimed that after Henderson penned a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, Villa offered to take him on loan.

But following Henderson’s outstanding performances at Sheffield United last season, he is now going to push a recently error-prone David de Gea for that number one spot.

It seems as though Villa are trying to sign a goalkeeper this summer, with rumours that they also want to bring Sergio Romero to the club [The Daily Mail].

This could only mean that Tom Heaton’s return to injury will be later than expected because, during his time in between the sticks, he has been a top-quality signing.

Villa also have Orjan Nyland, Jed Steer and Lovre Kalinic on their books, but it’s quite clear that Dean Smith isn’t keen for any of them to be number one.

Nyland was dropped towards the back end of last season and replaced by Pepe Reina, who has since left the club.

Whilst Kalinic has been out on-loan and has hardly played for the club despite joining them for a decent fee back when they were in the Championship.

On the other hand, Steer is a popular figure amongst the Villa Park faithful because of the role he played during their promotion campaign.

But after he was replaced as number one last summer, he has since suffered his own long-term injury and is also looking to get back on the goalkeeping trail.

Villa fans may agree that signing another shot-stopper isn’t at the top of their transfer list, but nor was signing a right-back, yet Matty Cash has been confirmed as their first capture of the summer.
