According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are leading the race to sign West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass, having offered an ‘attractive’ loan deal for the Scotland international.
Villa have focused on signing veteran players with Premier League experience, having landed John Terry, Christopher Samba, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan, with Steve Bruce also adding youngster Sam Johnstone and Josh Onomah on loan.
With the transfer deadline fasting approaching, Bruce could go back to signing another experienced player, as he pursues a reunion with West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass.
The Daily Mail claim that Villa have made West Ham an ‘attractive’ offer to take Snodgrass on loan, and they now lead the race to sign the Scotland international before the deadline.
Last week, BBC Sport reported that West Ham have told Snodgrass that he is surplus to requirements, and can leave on loan or permanently despite only signing for the club in January.
After hitting seven goals and three assists in 20 Premier League games for Hull City, Snodgrass was snapped up by West Ham as a replacement for Dimitri Payet – but he failed to live up to expectations.
Snodgrass failed to register a single goal or assist during his time with West Ham, and after Slaven Bilic snapped up Marko Arnautovic this summer, the Scot has been told that he can leave.
Villa boss Bruce worked with Snodgrass at Hull, and a reunion could be appealing for both men as Bruce seeks more creativity, and Snodgrass wants a club where he can play first-team football.
With Villa right up against Financial Fair Play regulations, Bruce can only engineer a loan deal for Snodgrass – but that may be enough to land the winger this summer.
