Aston Villa are reportedly hoping to scupper their Championship rival’s move for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Aston Villa are hoping to make a late play to scupper Middlesbrough’s move for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, and want to hold talks with the 29-year-old in the next 24 hours.

Bolasie’s future certainly appears to lie away from Goodison Park, for the coming season at least, and it did appear that Boro were very much in the driving seat to be the ones to bag his signature while the loan window remains open in the EFL.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the DR Congo international travelled to the Championship leaders’ training ground for talks with Tony Pulis and Boro are hopeful that they will get a deal across the line. But Steve Bruce’s men are looking to swoop in at the last minute.

The Liverpool Echo adds that Villa hope to hold talks with Bolasie within the next 24 hours in an attempt to convince him to head to the Midlands rather than the Riverside Stadium for the coming season.

Inspired addition for Villa

Bolasie has endured an extremely difficult time since moving to Everton for £25 million in 2016 – fee reported by BBC Sport. Injury has severely restricted the amount of game-time he has enjoyed, and his form when he has been fit has been largely underwhelming.

Nevertheless, he could be a seriously exciting signing for any second tier side in the final days of the loan window. And for Villa, he would certainly be a fantastic addition as they look to make up for lost time during the initial window.

It appears that they may have a mountain to climb to get a deal done, but Villa are clearly not giving up trying to get something done at the very last minute.
