According to a report from the Irish Independent, Aston Villa are monitoring Harry Arter’s situation at Cardiff as Bournemouth consider recalling the midfielder this month.

Arter has featured regularly for the Bluebirds this season, making 19 appearances in the Premier League. Nevertheless, the Cherries are weighing up whether to bring him back from his season-long loan and cash in before the end of the window.

The Irish Independent reports that the Villans are keen on the 29-year-old, but Dean Smith’s side face competition from Watford who are apparently considering Arter as a possible replacement for Abdoulaye Doucourewho has been linked by the Daily Mirror with a £50 million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

It would be a huge coup for Villa if they did manage to sign Arter this month. He is playing regularly in the Premier League right now, and is seemingly being lined up elsewhere as a potential replacement for a player who could seemingly move for £50 million.

Villa fans would certainly be forgiven for thinking that they need further additions before this month’s deadline.

Smith’s men have not won since Boxing Day and needed an excellent fightback to earn a point at home against Hull on Saturday. There is still more than enough time to turn their fortunes around and get into the play-off picture, but they need to get some momentum going quickly.

Signing a player of Arter’s calibre would arguably be a fantastic catalyst to get that momentum going.
