Aston Villa entered talks with Andreas Christensen before he ended up moving to Chelsea.
Christensen appears to have become a success story from the much-maligned loan system that the Blues operate, having become an important player in Antonio Conte’s squad recently after spending the previous two years with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.
But perhaps he could have established himself a key man for Aston Villa by now had the Villans board listened to one of their scouts.
However, The Sun on Sunday adds that the board failed to make a quick decision on the Dane, leaving the path clear for Chelsea to sign him as a 15-year-old in 2012 after Apps had left Villa Park to work at Stamford Bridge.
Of course, there is no knowing what Christensen’s career would look like if he had ended up at Villa instead of Chelsea, but based on what he has shown during his brief career already – especially in his most recent outing, looking particularly impressive in the 1-0 win over Manchester United – there can surely be no question that any members of Villa’s hierarchy who remain at the club from when Christensen was recommended to them will be kicking themselves that they did not sign him.
