The former Tigers boss is reportedly closing in on being appointed at Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce is already planning for life in charge of Aston Villa, the Daily Mirror suggests, and is hoping that a familiar face will turn out to be one of his first signings if he does get the job.

The Mirror reports that Bruce is the favourite for the Villa Park post following Roberto Di Matteo’s dismissal before the international break.

Unsurprisingly therefore, it appears that Bruce is already putting together a strategy that he hopes will lead the side away from their current position in the Championship and towards the top six, and that strategy appears to include potential targets for the club to pursue in January.

The Mirror reports that one of his main targets is Hull wide-man Ahmed Elmohamady, who is a player that Bruce already knows very well.

It was Bruce who brought the Egyptian to the Premier League when he signed him for Sunderland in 2010, and he signed him for a second time when he moved to Hull City.

While Elmohamady has struggled to make a positive impression in the top flight this season, he has proved that he can be an excellent player to have amongst a squad.

As well as the versatility that means that he can be deployed in both defence and midfield, he is also a frequent contributor of goals and assists.

And if he did move to Villa, and manage to find his best form, it is fair to say that their hopes of success this term would be enhanced tremendously.
