Rangers may want Northampton Town talent Caleb Chukwuemeka, but it’s Aston Villa who have made the first move to sign him.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who report that Villa have launched a first bid to sign the teenage attacker.
However, League Two side Northampton have rejected the approach despite knowing that he can walk away from the club in January.
Chukwuemeka’s youth contract with the Cobblers expires in January, and he has yet to sign a professional deal at Sixfields.
Villa’s move isn’t a huge surprise given that they already have Chukwuemeka’s brother Carney in their ranks, and signing his 19-year-old brother makes sense.
Their first bid has failed though, and they face major competition in the race to sign Chukwuemeka moving forward.

The same report claims that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have both joined the race to sign Chukwuemeka.
The Daily Mail also reported last month that Rangers have expressed an interest in signing Chukwuemeka in a potential cut-price move.
Northampton may feel that the mounting interest will help them land a considerable fee for the teenager, even though he can walk away from the club in 2022.
