According to The Express & Star, Aston Villa and Arsenal are likely to reach an agreement over the transfer of Emiliano Martinez in the next week.

It has been reported that Arsenal have decided to sell Martinez for £20 million, and that talks with Villa are going on.

The report has added that an agreement is ‘likely to be reached in the next week’.

Would Emiliano Martinez be a good signing for Aston Villa?

Tom Heaton is the first-choice goalkeeper at Villa at the moment, but he is injured and will not be ready for the start of the season.

Martinez is a very good goalkeeper who showed his class for Arsenal in the final weeks of last season.

The 28-year-old is ready to go straight into the team if he signs for the Villans next season, and he will be a reliable pair of hands between the posts.

Once Heaton recovers, Villa manager Dean Smith will have two quality goalkeepers to choose from, and that is only going to be good for the team.

Villa will be determined not to be involved in a relegation dogfight this season.
