Report: Aston Villa leading charge if Chelsea loan out Tammy Abraham

Aston Villa are reportedly in the driving seat to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham if they decide to loan the youngster out.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa will be in pole position to sign Tammy Abraham should Chelsea decide that they are prepared to loan the striker out once the initial transfer deadline passes.

Abraham is in an uncertain position right now. The Mirror reports that the Blues are holding off on a decision on the youngster’s future while speculation continues regarding both Olivier Giroud’s and Michy Batshuayi’s situations at Stamford Bridge.

The report suggests that Chelsea could decide to keep Abraham if they are left short of options for the coming season, but they may decide to loan him out once the initial deadline passes. And the Mirror reports that should Chelsea end up loaning him out, it is Villa who are at the front of the queue.

It has been a bizarre summer for Villa. The clouds have lifted somewhat, but there is little time left for Steve Bruce to get a significant number of new faces in on a permanent basis.

Abraham would arguably be an excellent signing for the Villans if they managed to get the green light from Chelsea on a potential deal. The England international was superb during a previous spell in the division with Bristol City, and showed some glimpses of his quality last season at Swansea.

Aston Villa kick off the new Championship season on Monday night as they take on Hull City away from home with Bruce’s men looking to go one better than last term when they were denied promotion at the final hurdle. Having Abraham in the ranks would certainly boost their chances of ending their top flight exile.
