Aston Villa are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements in January.
Aston Villa are leading the chase for Limerick’s Chiedozie Ogbene, and are poised to table a bid, according to the Irish Examiner.
Ogbene, 20, scored eight goals from 32 League of Ireland appearances in 2017, playing on both flanks as well as up front.
And his form appears to have caught the eye in England, with the Irish Examiner reporting that Ogbene has held trials with Chelsea and other clubs there since the end of Limerick’s season.
However, it is Aston Villa, in need of a new striker in particular after Jonathan Kodjia’s injury, who are said to be in pole position to sign him.
Ogbene, whose family moved to Ireland from Nigeria in 2005, has a year left on his contract at Markets Field.
He would link up with fellow Irishmen, Glenn Whelan, Scott Hogan and Conor Hourihane, should he move to Villa Park.
