Dean Smith’s search for a new centre-back at Aston Villa may have taken him back to a familiar face.
According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is keen to sign Ezri Konsa from Brentford.
Villa have been searching for two new centre-backs for much of the summer so far, and moved to sign Tyrone Mings from Bournemouth this week.
Villa are now on the hunt for a defender who could play alongside Mings, and Konsa is emerging as a target.
Smith was the manager who signed Konsa for Brentford, and when he brought him to Griffin Park, the Villa boss spoke very highly of the England youth international.
“It is a really exciting signing for us because of his age, potential and attitude,” Smith said to Brentford’s official website.
“He has played a lot of games at League One level and his potential is unlimited.”
Konsa has gone on to prove Smith right and is now regarded as one of the Championship’s top talents.
If he was to arrive at Villa he would be another impressive addition in what has been an exciting summer so far for the claret and blues.
