Aston Villa are looking to appoint a number 2 to manager Steve Bruce.

Aston Villa have interviewed former Birmingham City first team coach Paul Trollope for their vacant assistant manager’s role, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Trollope began the campaign as manager of Cardiff City, but was sacked in October with the Bluebirds second bottom in the Championship.

Steve Bruce has already added Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh to his coaching staff, having worked with the pair at previous clubs, following his appointment as Villa boss last month, but according to the Birmingham Mail the hiring of his number 2 is thought to be a club decision.

The report adds that the Villans are keen to establish some stability behind the scenes and ‘do not want a large upheaval once again should there be a managerial change any time soon’.

It is claimed that Bruce will however have the power to veto requests made by technical director Steve Round.

Villa are also said to be seeking a new head of recruitment.

Trollope, 44, managed Bristol Rovers for five years before teaming up with Chris Hughton at St. Andrew’s, later following him to Norwich City.
