Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Shane Long from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that Long – who earns £60,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – is on the list of Villa manager Steve Bruce’s targets.
The Championship club will be able to sign the 31-year-old Republic of Ireland international forward – who joined Southampton from Hull City in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £12 million – only on loan this month.
Good signing for Aston Villa?
Long is a good forward who has proved himself in the Championship, and the Republic of Ireland international would be a decent loan signing for Villa.

However, the 31-year-old is not prolific, and if Villa are looking for someone to bang in the goals regularly, then the Southampton forward is not their man.
Moreover, it remains to be seen if Long himself would be interested in leaving a Premier League club in Southampton and move a step down to the Championship.
